Below is one of my parables — a Scripture story that makes sense of God and me. Thank you for sending me your parables. I look forward to posting them in the upcoming Stories of Salvation posts. In fact my next post will be one of your parables — “There’s Something About Mary.” Here is one of mine — a story that pierced my heart and “knocked on the door” of all of my senses.
fire licked her hearth and
She took flight.
smoke met her eyes with a burning kiss.
shrieks assaulted her ears as
She fled the damned.
stink wafted by her nostrils with
sickening ease.
horror chased her senses and
She could not outrun
the sight and sound and smell of
her burning children.
guilt love overtook her and
She looked back.
A salty spetacle
shouts
It is too late.
now curious travelers view the statue as
She stands still.
nomads with mothers’ hearts sense grace
in the sulfurous pillar.
anguished eyes meet.
She is mercifully frozen.
a whiff of wickedness
tantalizes my senses.
She whispers, “Look back.”
Before it is too late.
“Then God rained brimstone and fire down on Sodom and Gomorrah — a river of lava rom God out of the sky! — and destroyed these cities and the entire plain and everyone who lived in the cities and everything that grew from the ground. But Lot’s wife looked back and turned into a pillar of salt.” Genesis 19, The Message
“Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If you hear me and call and open th door, I’ll come right in and sit down to supper with you.” Revelation 3:20
